Dimple finished the floors just as the smells of roast duck and mushrooms with gravy filled the air. she licked her lips tea seemed like ages ago! she ran outside and dumped the mop water out then hurried back inside and to the kitchen "can I help?" Dimple said tying an apron around her waist. "Yes I suppose you can." said May thoughtfully "You ate my last loaf of Honey Wheat bread didn't you." Dimple looked at the floor and then up at the ceiling, would she ever remember to clean up after herself! "Yes mother, I ate it."
May looked up from the bowl of potatoes she was mashing, "Dimple why don't you just ask? Instead of causing us the headache of lecturing you?"
Dimple couldn't think of an answer, she did not know why. "Well it just seems..." Dimple started then bit her tongue, she knew her mother would lecture on no matter what she said. "it just seemed like a good idea?" May finished "and asking never seems like a good idea? Dimple," she gave her daughter a stern glance before finishing. "you are near grown! almost and adult! Only three years from it! and yet you still act like a very naughty child!" Dimple looked back at the floor her cheeks flushed, she hated these kinds of lectures. "I am sorry mother! but--"
"No buts Dimple please! just listen!" May continued her voice rising slightly "You need to start acting like an adult and put away these childish behaviours!" Dimple's shoulders slumped this was just what she expected, the usual reprimanding. "Dimple I do not think you are taking what I said to heart! you are just letting it slip off!" May's voice got quiet and very stern. "Dimple i want you to go to your room and think about what I have said." Dimple guessed what was coming next "No dinner tonight Dimple, I want you to act your age and put your childish ways behind. Be a good example for your brother!" Dimple's genuine pouty lip came out, but she said "yes Mother." took her apron off and wandered to her room which was located right beside the pantry...
